Blog Love…It Feels Good to Share.

Since starting this blog in late March 2012 I have been pleasantly surprised with the number of new followers, thoughtful comments and support for my writing and content. I started this blog so my parents (who live a day’s car ride away) along with other relatives who feel far away due to freeways filled with traffic or are actually far away living in other states, could keep up with what is happening at our house. To get to see not just the “staged, cute, sit here while I take a picture” moments but also the everyday moments that I think about long after they have happened.

I have found such a calm inner joy when writing and constructing a blog post…it is a great creative outlet for me to express the many facets of motherhood. I enjoy the “virtual” community, the great ideas I find when looking at other talented bloggers and especially the curiosity sparked when I see photographs that make me really think about how I am taking my own pictures.

I feel stunned and overcome with happiness to tell all of you (my lovely readers) that In Her Chucks bestowed upon my little blog two awards in mid-June that she received a few months earlier. The Versatile Blogger Award and One Lovely Blog Award. When I read all the introductions to other blogs she also nominated for these awards, I felt so fortunate to find myself in such good company.

So, here is a heart-felt thank you to In Her Chucks for the huge compliments and blog love. I think your CSA Link-up party “What’s in the box?”, hosted by you each Wednesday is a beautiful, creative collection of healthy, yummy recipes for all the common and unique foods that come in our Community Supported Agriculture food boxes. What a great resource and community, I enjoy being a part of it.

About a month ago (I know crazy timing), I was also contacted by the Social Networking Coordinator for Simplicity Parenting’s blog asking if I would like to contribute to their blog as a guest blogger. The Simplicity Parenting blog’s focus is around simplifying all aspects of your family’s life. The book “Simplicity Parenting, using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids” written by Kim John Payne with Lisa M. Ross, spells out this idea in detail.

I am in the middle of reading his book now and find his writing voice very calming and his ideas of simplifying all aspects of your life so your whole family feels strong, secure and able to handle all the constant simulation in their day very thought-provoking. Reading his book has even helped spark a serious purge and organization of our entire home (thanks to my husband, I am terrible at jump-starting this type of activity)…it feels really good. I should also note, I am not compensated in any way for my opinions on this book. I am just stating my opinion and own experience.

I was again, overwhelmed with happiness and said yes. My first “guest post” was available on their blog site starting Monday. Their blog is a beautiful resource to learn and explore creative ways to simplify different aspects of your family’s life. To be selected and asked to contribute to this site is an honor.

As for the blogger awards…

There are some stipulations to follow as a nominee,

1. Thank and link back to the blogger who nominated you

2. Tell 7 things about yourself

3. Nominate 15 bloggers and let them know

Here are my Nominee’s,

Now, I first have to say again that I am new to the blogging world and so I am only going to nominate six blogs…these are my favorite favorites. Enjoy!

at home with Ali- A very creative mom staying home with two daughters, she loves messy play and takes getting creative to a whole other level. Her backyard play spaces are inspiring and I always find something on her site to help make our day a little more fun.

Noelleodesigns- A remarkably creative and talented mom of four. She sews the most incredible messenger bags along with many other unique bags/purses and takes beautiful pictures of her latest creations as well as her surroundings. I love her sense of color and design, it is a treat to read her blog.

Greening Sam and Avery- A caring and nature-inspired mama who makes a point each day to teach and play with her two young daughters outside. She also co-hosts a link-up party on outdoor play that I love.

Memories by Me Photography- I recently came across this blog when looking around on Freshly Pressed. Her post “The Power of Lego” was simple and yet said so much.  She takes incredible photographs, the color and light in her images are breathtaking. She shares tender moments when taking her photographs, especially of her three boys and I just can’t stop looking at her pictures, they are beautiful.

Getting Messy with Ms. Jessi- This is the preschool teacher hopefully we all hope our children get the opportunity to learn from. She shares her creative crafts and activities from her preschool classroom and they are easy to recreate. I have sent a number of her posts off to L’s preschool teachers and they love them. There is always something to learn how to make on her blog.

Mexico to Canada The Pacific Crest Trail holds a very special place in my heart. I can’t wait to hike this trail in its entirety with my husband and hopefully our boys too. This couple is doing it, hiking 2650 miles from Mexico to Canada this summer and you can read about their days and see pictures from their adventure. Their writing is raw and thoughtful and their photographs make you feel like you are hiking right along with them.

So, here are 7 things about me

1. I played fast-pitch softball in college. I switch hit and played center field and I haven’t played or hit a ball since my last game in college…years and years ago.

2. I love to eat crab.

3. I sleep with a Patagonia fleece blanket even in the summer.

4. I have never made soup from scratch.

5. My favorite fruit is a nectarine, hands down.

6. I ate a bag of skittles everyday I was in college and still like them.

7. I am terrible at spelling, always have been. Thank you computer wizards for spell check and especially grammar check on WordPress!

Okay, enough about me and my favorite blogs and my awards and new places to read about our adventures…seriously. I am grateful for the blog love and hope to continue to share these messy, crazy, wild, raw, joy-filled, loving moments of life. It is so fun!

Thank you so much! I love your blog too!

  2. I’m with you…Nectarines all the way :)

    Lovely post…congrats again!

  3. I ate a twix bar every day in high school!

    • Yum. Those are really good. I ate a lot of skittles in high school too but I was really obsessive about it in college :)

  4. Cheers, thank you for that! Hope you get to do a thru hike as you dream. There’s a mom and her 8 year old doing the whole trail this year, so your family idea is certainly possible.

    • I am certain my husband and I will thru hike…maybe 15 years from now but it will happen! My boys show signs of promise :) We probably won’t try that feat with the boys until they are older…it is really fun to dream.
Good luck on the rest of your hike!

  5. Thank you so much for nominating me. You have totally made my day!! :) I love the book Simplicity Parenting – I think it may be the only parenting book that I read cover to cover. Cheers Ali

    • You are welcome and honestly you make my day all the time! You have no idea how many times you made my crazy afternoon turn into a special one with my boys. All because of one of your activities or crafts. So, thank you!

  6. Lovely space you have here! I wanted to share my blog with you as well: http://www.threadandneedle.blogspot.com

    • Thanks Beatrice. Happy you found me and you blog is full of “real life” goodness. Thanks for pointing me in your direction.
