Sunflowers and Tomatoes

My husband brought a bird feeder home from the hardware store several months ago and we all are pleasantly surprised at the amount of entertainment it provides. Everything from birds and squirrels squabbling over the bits of dropped bird seed to all the different types of birds now visiting our yard.

An added bonus of our bird feeder are the sunflowers that sprouted and are now blooming just under the bird feeder. They are so sweet and beautiful, I wanted to share them.

Our tomatoes are finally ripe and ready to enjoy. My boys spend at least 5 minutes each morning and evening picking, eating, and in their words “harvesting” tomatoes. I swear there is nothing like a freshly picked tomato. It adds so much vibrant color and flavor to what ever dish you are serving.

I still find tried but not finished tomatoes all over our yard. C still doesn’t quite enjoy them but he loves to pick them and be a part of the “harvest”. This is why we plant so many tomatoes, we all get to enjoy them as we like.

Who has a favorite way to incorporate these beautiful small tomatoes into a dinner, a favorite salad or side dish? They are so incredible just on their own but I would love to hear any ideas.

  1. I was thinking about this post the other morning as Kaitlyn and I looked out at our sunflowers. They are almost 10 feet tall and the birds LOVE them. We always have several little colorful birds fluttering around on them picking at the seeds. I love it! The bees love them too; I don’t like that quite as much. :)

  2. My youngest takes them in his lunch box just as they are but I also love to roast them with rosemary and garlic and then toss them into pastas and other dishes. They freeze that way also.

    • Good idea…freezing them. I will have to do that since I have about a gallon bag full of tomatoes and more to come :) Thank you.
