I am sure my boys are not unique in their love of forts, hiding spaces or blocked off areas where only they can go. If there is a lull in the day this is the first thing they do, make a special, secret space to play, craft, sleep, when they want to play together.
The other day I heard them busily constructing, working together, giggling proudly.
They were so quiet and yet busy at the same time. They asked me to come and see what they made and there they were…painting together.
They blocked off one hole with the chair cushion and the other side they built a wall with small windows. They were smart (I was thankful!) and brought our craft mat to paint on. They gathered the watercolors, paper, water to wash their brushes and craft mat all by themselves.
I love how they are able to create a space that feels secure and safe all by themselves.
This “art room” was a huge hit all day. I found one or both of them here many times during the day. Watching them work together, create art together and share a small space together was very special.

So cute!
Thanks Danielle
Writing this post makes me want one of these spaces for myself! It changed the whole day.
